Portal solutions

Enterprise portal is an informational system, which provides single web interface for company’s personnel in order to access different corporate data and applications. Enterprise portal functions can be divided into three main groups:

  • Creating internal company’s web sites
  • Creating virtual workspaces for collaborative work of employees
  • Providing single access point to corporate informational systems

Let’s speak more about the features of enterprise portals.

Creating internal company’s web sites

Portal allows to create both shared internal sites for all employees of the organization and separate sites for organization units. New site can be quickly developed on the basis of a typical template. Portal enables to use plenty of customizable modules, for example, document library with attributive and full text search features, news, forums, polling, questionnaires, wiki-system etc.

Creating virtual workspaces for collaborative work of employees

A good example of virtual workspace for collaborative work of employees is a project portal, where members of a project team can find shared library of documents, project calendar, tasks management, tools for group communication. Apart from that, business processes of organization (e.g. documents approval, tasks performance etc.) can be automated on the portal’s base. Portal will enable automated documents routing among all the participants of the process and control over their processing.

Providing single access point to corporate information systems

Portal enables work with several corporate applications (e.g., email, CRM, ERP etc.) in a single web-interface, which makes work much easier. Such user interface usually allows customization to meet the needs of each worker. Single sign-on is supported, it allows to avoid repeated authentications of users while using several applications. One more advantage of using the portal as a single integrated platform is end-to-end search of diversified data from different storages and informational systems.

Modern corporate portals are not created from scratch, because there are plenty of platforms (portal solutions) on the market. Portal solutions can be free or proprietary. BTLab company has experience in creating enterprise portals using the following platforms:

  • Alfresco Enterprise
  • Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS)
  • IBM WebSphere Portal

  • Alfresco Community
  • Microsoft SharePoint Foundation
  • Liferay Portal
  • JBoss Portal
  • Drupal

We have successfully carried out lots of projects using all of the above mentioned frameworks and gained invaluable experience in designing, developing and implementing enterprise portals taking into account the differences between the platforms.
